Accounting and Financial Analyst
The Modern Language Association of America has an immediate opening for an experienced accounting professional to serve as an accounting and financial analyst. The ideal candidate will have a record of accounting and financial analysis, along with the excellent communication skills necessary to interpret and communicate accounting concepts to colleagues on staff.
Under the supervision of the head of financial operations, the accounting and financial analyst assists with association accounting functions, including grant and restricted fund accounting, and works with department heads on budget analysis by preparing and interpreting periodic budget-projection reports. Working with colleagues in information systems, the accounting and financial analyst creates and interprets standard and ad hoc business intelligence reports such as ROI analysis and what-if comparisons to inform business unit decisions; assists with grant budgeting and financial reporting, ensuring project leaders adhere to spending guidelines and reporting requirements; and compiles and analyzes information for periodic reports on the association’s invested funds.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting or finance
- Minimum of three years’ experience in general accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis; experience with grant budgeting and accounting a plus
- Strong experience with computerized accounting systems; knowledge of NetSuite a plus
- Demonstrated computer skills with advanced proficiency in Excel
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts clearly and simply to nonaccountants
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail
This is a hybrid position. The work can be done primarily remotely, but there is a requirement to work on-site as needed at our office in downtown Manhattan. You must be able to work legally in the United States. Annual salary is commensurate with experience, in the range of $85,000–$95,000. The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans with minimum shared premium cost.
