Professional Development Grants for Part-Time Faculty Members
The Modern Language Association is offering $1,000 grants to part-time faculty members to help them pay for expenses associated with their professional development. The grants may be used for technology purchases, continuing education, research expenses, conference participation (in-person and virtual), or other costs related to career development, including childcare expenses incurred while faculty members pursue professional development opportunities. Applicants may only receive the grant once every three years. (Please note that these awards cannot be used to support travel to the MLA convention for those who are eligible for the various travel assistance programs.)
To be eligible, applicants must
- be current MLA members
- earn the majority (more than fifty percent) of their income from teaching part-time at a college or university
- not be in the first five years of their graduate studies
- submit a complete application, including a short description of their professional development project (100 words min–250 words max)

Marie Taylor (Schwenksville, Pennsylvania), conference participation
Grants are awarded twice yearly by lottery to approximately ten applicants. The spring application cycle will close on 12 April; all applications received after this date will be included in our fall application cycle. Notifications about successful spring applications will be sent by 1 May.
